A judge has temporarily blocked an order from the Trump administration that would have banned TikTok from being downloaded from US app stores.

At the end of the day on Sunday, the US government could have forced app stores run by Apple and Google to remove TikTok.

But after a hearing on Sunday, Judge Carl Nichols of United States District Court for the District of Columbia, granted an injunction against that order.

John Hall, an attorney for TikTok, argued that the app, with some 100 million American users, is a "modern day version of the town square" and shutting it down is akin to silencing speech.

据美国国家公共电台（NPR）报道，27 日的判决使得 Tiktok 至少在下一次合议庭听证前（时间尚未确定），都能继续运营。
The judges move means the Chinese-owned TikTok can now operate without interruption at least until a full court hearing. A full hearing date on the case has not yet been set.
